ReplyDeleteI think Max says he doesn't have a brain because sometimes he does stupid things, but I think that he does, but he doesn't understand the teachers, but freak(Keven) breaks it down so he learns how to do it, which is stated in the book. He calls himself a "Butthead" because he keeps comparing himself to others, who learn faster than him. Especially freak, who is a genius.
this is a very good way to summarize how max learns and feels about his learning capibility

I think Max thinks that he doesn't have a brain because he doesn't understand a lot of things. It takes him a while to process things. It just means that he's better at something else like, growing. You can see on pages 18 and 19. I think that he shouldn't call himself a "butthead" because it can bring him down and and he could end up with less confidence than he had before. Our opinions of ourselves effect what people think of us because it can lead people to believe that we don't care about ourselves or other people. It also effects what people think our personality is like. Other people's opinions can change ourselves and we might make a mistake. We could also also make something really good come out of it. This can also change our personality. It's like a big circle, either way things can change you or people around you. So you have to be careful with your choices in life.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Noah. Since Max compares himself to faster learners, especially Freak, he feels slow and dumb. If he compared himself to learners like himself, he wouldn't feel so stupid. Opinions influence us a lot. If you think someone is "cool", you may also think you're nothing compared to them. If people treat you like a god, you may feel cooler than you know you are. For example, Tony treated Max like an animal a lot before, and since he could beat Max to a pulp, Max really did feel like an animal.
I think Max thinks he is unsmart because Freak is handicapped and knows so much. This may be discouraging because Max is in good condition and barely knows what Freak is saying as showed in pages 18 and 19. Also in pages 18 and 19 it shows how your opinions of yourself can effect others opinions of you. It does this when Max shows over and over again that he does not understand what freak is saying, I think Freak starts to think that Max doesn't know anything at all.Also peoples opinion of you can change how you think of yourself. Well in page 47 Freak says something about dinosaurs having a brain the size of a peanut and I'm pretty sure he was reffering to Max. Saying that could make Max think that he definately knows nothing.

ReplyDeleteI think that Max says he has no brain because he has a learning disorder. It also said on page 46 that Max always has to look up words so that might make him feel not as smart as everybody else.

ReplyDeleteI believe what Max thinks is partly true, in that he has a lot on his mind, and thinks about this all the time. Then during a test, he may be thinking about his mom or dad and only get half of the test finished, which would get him a bad grade. But, I also think it is to do with his self-confidence, as in how he calls himself a “butthead”, which wouldn’t help at all. But when he is compared to someone like Freak [Kevin], Max is really, let’s say, un-smart. Like on page 33 Freak is listing all the metals that were in the fire-works that I haven’t even heard or even know how to say their names.

ReplyDeleteMax thinks he is a butthead because in the first chapter of the book, he says he has a learning disability. Everyone cares what other people think of them because you can't just live knowing someone hates you. If someone does for a certain reason, you try and fix that. If you know you are not well liked, you say you're awesome to make others think that just to make you feel better.

ReplyDeleteI think that Max thinks he is a butthead because everybody else looks down on him, because in chapter 1 a kid was calling Max names, so he has no self-esteem. Because he is told that, he is starting to believe that.
Max is convinced he doesn’t have a brain because of his father. Just because his father is in jail he thinks he’s stupid and a butthead, too. He also thinks he’s a butthead because of Freak. It’s not Freaks fault he’s a geniuses but Max doesn’t know half the stuff he’s talking about most of the time. Anyway, Max doesn’t consider himself smart or intelligent. That’s why he calls himself a butthead.
ReplyDeleteFor the last question, I think the way people see us and tell us then you either will start to try to act like that or try not to depending on what they said about you. So if someone were to call you smart then you would try to get everyone to think that by doing everything in your power to look smart.

ReplyDeleteI think that Max is convinced he doesn't have a brain because he has a hard time understanding things maybe even because it takes him a while to process things. I don't think he should call himself a "butthead" just because he's an L.D. I think that it discourages him when he thinks of himself as an L.D. or a "butthead".
I think that our own opinions effect what others think of us because if you think that you are mean you might act mean to other people and people might be mean back. Others’ opinions can effect how we feel about ourselves too. For example, if you hear someone say something about you, you may think of yourself that way and it may make you feel depressed or maybe happy you never know.

ReplyDeleteI think our opinions affect what others think of us because if you think you are rude than you might acy like that to other people. The way others' opinions can affect how we feel about ourself because if they say we are mean then we might think we are mean if we didn;t think that before.
Max is conviced he dosen't hae a brain because he has a tough time understanding somethings. Although it takes him a while to figure out somethings I still don't think he should call himself a "butthead". Just because he's and L.D. I think it discoursges himself when he thinks of himself like that.

ReplyDeleteSo, Max calls himself a "butthead". I can explain why he calls himself that. Since he is in a smart environment. He has Freak to compare himself to. Everyone think he's a large kid who seems to be dimwitted. But,imagine if that was you. If they called you dumb. You wouldn't like it. Now you know how Max feels. Now if you think about Freak, you think about brains,smartness,and etc. But when you think of Max it's a whole different world basically. Now, if Max believes all this stuff he says to himself. He will end up like that. But, if he had no brain. He wouldn't be even alive. So yes, he has a brain.
Our opinions are just as as important as others' opinion about you. You need to believe in your self before you let others judge you. Max, is not ready to exept it.

ReplyDeleteI think Max calls himself a butthead and not very bright because, he is friends with Freak. Freak is a very smart boy. I would say he is overly smart. So Max compares himself to Freak. Which would make him feel not very smart.
Another reason is it does take him a little bit longer than others to do things. But that does not mean he is not smart. If he wanted to he could be a very smart kid. Which brings me to my next point. Max is so convinced he is not smart, he believes it. I mean if somebody told me many times that I was not smart I would start believeing it.

ReplyDeleteIn the story Max is calling himself a butthead and that he is not smart. He thinks that since his father is in jail that he is not as smart as he think he is. I mean compared to Freak he is not that smart because Freak uses more vocabulary then Max, which in this case I would feel the same way. Yet again max could actually be as smart as Freak if he would try.
I agree with Espy. I mean if you choose to be really nice to somebody, I garented that person might act the same way, but if you were to bully someone they could feel bad and one day they might be the one bullying you. So basicly what ever your opinion is about you another person might act just like that.

I think that the reason that Max calls himself a butthead is because that he doesn’t do very well in school. He also calls himself stupid because all the kids a school say so (page 76). That brings me to how what others think effect the way that you think of yourself. If someone says that you’re stupid you will ponder that until you actually believe it. That is my post.

ReplyDeleteWhy is Max considered a " butt-head "? I think it's because he always looks down on his self. One reason for it is because of ("Kane the killer" pg.39) his dad. His is a bright kid he just lacks the light to show him the way.As I will keep saying until proven wrong that Kevin is that light. The only reason he is called stupid is because he looks kind of like it and he doesn't believe he can do it.

ReplyDeleteMax thinks he is a butthead because he doesn't believe. He could be a smart kid. If you think you aren't smart then u will know your not smart. He could be a smart kid he just needs help. He also needs to think that he can.
I think Max considers himself a butthead is because he has always been the big tough guy so he hasn't needed a brain yet. So when freak came along it opened a world of imagination and a dictionary at times Max is astonshed with all the new stuff he is learning.

ReplyDeleteI think our opinions affect what others think of us because if you think you a bad person then you tell someone else that you think your a bad person and they might make a wierd face and say you aren't but they might think you are. The way others' opinions can affect how we feel about ourself because if they say we are a bad person then we might think we are a bad person if we didn't think that before.
Max probably refers to himself as a "butthead" because he hangs out with Kevin.As everyone knows Kevin is a very inteligent kid.So when Max hangs out with Kevin he probably thinks about himself as a "butthead."
