ReplyDeleteShe probably thinks he is some kind of kidnapper. Like on page 20 it says "She catches sight of me coming up out of the down under and it's like somebody shot her. Like she's scared out of her mind."
Iggy and Loretta are husband and wife. Loretta is also the owner of the purse they found in the sewer. I think that Iggy is Max's fathers rival.

I agree with, Tabatha that Gwen was really frightened. I also think that Gwen most likely thought that that Max was a kidnapper or he could have been an older boy or a bad influence. I'm sure there's many possibilities that a parent could think of. You can see how terrified Gwen gets on page 20. If I was a parent I would be scared because for one he was a stranger and he looks like his father. That on it's own would be scary.
Part 2
I think that Iggy and Loretta are going to be a big part in the story. I think this because it's seems like they know a lot about the two families. That can be a good thing or a bad thing. I think that Loretta, Gwen and Max's mom were once friends. I also think that Iggy and Max's dad could have been friends. Overall I believe that they will play a big part.
The reason that Max thinks that Gwen was upset to see Kevin in his room because she fears that he might kidnap Kevin, as it says in the book on page 21, "What was he doing with my little boy, stealing him away in the wagon?". The real reason that he frightened her is because he's a "spitting image of his old man", a criminal.
ReplyDeleteIggy and Loretta Lee are an old odd couple, and may actually become friends with Max and Kevin, because it is hinted that they knew Max's father, and that they can relate to him.

I agree with Michael,on page 25 Freak says Max is a spitting image of his old man.The thing is his dad was a criminal and Gwen knew that, but Max didn't. So when Gwen saw Max coming up from down under with Freak she was shocked and frightened.But since Max had no idea why, he assumed it was because she was afraid of him.
ReplyDeleteIggy and Loretta Lee are a couple that live in the "Old Testaments".When Freak and Max found that old soggy purse in the storm drain they decided to give it back to her. I think the couple will play an important part of the story because they know a lot about Max and Freak's life. Iggy knows who Max's dad is, though I'm sure everyone does. Loretta seems to know a lot about Freak too.

ReplyDeleteI think Gwen is scared of Max because she knows that Max's dad is a criminal, and Max looks exactly like him. Also, she may have thought Max was kidnapping her "little boy", which it states on page 21.
I think Iggy and Loretta Lee are important because they seem to know about Max's family. Plus, I don't think Rodman Philbrick would put them in if they wouldn't play a part farther into the story.

ReplyDeletePart 1: I think that Gwen is scared of Max because Max's dad is in jail, and it says so on page 70.He looks a lot like his dad. With that said, Gwen was just so freaked out she, well, freaked out.
Part 2: I think that Iggy and Loretta are going to be important in the story, just as Noah puts it. I think that they know a lot about Max's dad and were really good friends with him until he got stuck in jail.

Throughout chapter 4. Appropriately called "What Scared the Fair Gwen". Gwen does care about Freak/Kevin even though he has a birth defect. When Freak/Kevin is in Max's room and Gwen finds him there. She gets scared and worried about Freak. If you see Max in the real world. You'll think,"Gosh, he's tall! Is he going to hurt me or take my money? I better run!!". Though never judge a book by it's cover is what Gwen should of thought. Merely, Freak giving something to Max. Gwen though of Max as a brute or someone who would beat up Freak.
Part 2
Let's see about Loretta and Iggy. They seem like nice people... Will they be important? I believe they will. Loretta Lee and Iggy Lee seem to recognize Max. Since they found her purse,and they seems to know Max's father Kenny Kane and Freak's mom Gwen Avery. Or as Loretta calls her "Stuck-up Gwen". But, Que sera,sera. Whatever will be,will be. We'll find it out later in the book...
Part 1
ReplyDeleteIn chapter 4 Gwen sees Max and Freak (Kevin) together in Max’s room. When she walks away with Freak (Kevin) she practically runs home and a glare type stare to Max is given. In the book is says and “ Freak is in the wagon and he’s trying to shrug his shoulders and let me know he doesn’t understand what got into the Fair Gwen, but I know. It’s pretty simple, really. She’s scared of me.” The reason why, according to Max’s thinking is that Max knew that look. He knows it because I’m sure he’s gotten that look before from other people’s parents. That’s Max’s reason but the real reason is totally different. The real reason why she runs home with him is because, we later discover, that she knew his dad and his mom. And she ran away from Max because of how much Max looks like his dad and Max’s dad is in prison. Which doesn’t make him look so innocent know does it? Also, of how much he’s grown and she wanted to keep her little Kevin safe. That’s why she ran away from Max.
Part 2
Who are Iggy and Loretta Lee? I don’t know exactly but they seem very kind. But will they be important to the story? I believe they will. They seem to know both families very well so they might have some effect on something. They both knew Max’s dad until he got put in jail but that doesn’t mean they will be important. I honestly don’t know. But I do agree with Sam and Brooke. About how Loretta, Max’s mom, and Gwen were once friends and Iggy and Max’s dad, too. I guess we’ll just have to wait……

I agree with Brooke Gwen was really frightened. If I was a mother I would have been frightened too, to discover my child, Freak (Kevin), in a basement with a giant kid. She also could have thought that Max was a kidnapper or mabe just an older boy picking on her child. So, she ran off with Freak (Kevin) and this like Emmie said glare type stare on her face as she glanced back at Max. So, as Max thinks she's scared of him. The real reason why she runs home with him is because, we later discover, that she knew his dad. Gwen ran away from Max because of how much he looks like his dad. By the way Max's dad is in prison.

Part 2
I think that Iggy and Loretta Lee will play a big roll in this book. Iggy and Loretta are a scary looking couple that live in the so called "New Testaments". They seem to know a lot about Max's and Kevin's famlies. I think that they will play a big roll in this book. Also they seem to have known their parents. I think that Gwen, Max's mom, and Loretta may have been friends. Also, it seems like Iggy and Max's dad might have been friends. Overall I think that this odd couple is going to play a big roll in this story.

ReplyDeletePart one: As we go back to earlier chapters we find Kevin and his bird. He gets taken to Max's and they talk to each other. Then Gwen comes nervously and runs out with her son. Now lets go to Max's perspective, it is the same as in the book. All he thought was that she was scared, but that was half the truth. Gwen thought that Max was a big scary criminal or worse. She just wanted her boy safe.
Part 2: Iggy and Loretta found in this book were said to live in a dump of a house. They both knew Max and Kevin's parents. I bet they will be in future chapters because they know Max and Kevin. I think I know why gram and
grim told Max not to go to the testaments.

ReplyDeleteWhen Kevin’s mother, Gwen, Finds him in a the basement or down under with Max she freaks out. Gwen was probably thinking what in the world is my little kid doing with that monster. That’s what max thought. But, on page 24 Gram tells Max that Gwen actually thought that Max was his father.
ReplyDeleteIggy and Loretta Lee are a couple who live in the New Tenements, or on page 63 the New Testaments. Iggy is hairy, fat, full of blue tattoos and has a beard that looks like red barbed wire. Loretta is a small, scrawny with hard eyes and blurry red lips. She smokes and is wearing a ratty old bathrobe when Freak and Max see her. I think that they won’t really do very much in the rest of the book.
